Kappa Mikey

Kappa Mikey was the first anime series produced and animated entirely within the US. The half-hour action-comedy series premiered on Nicktoons Network, and due to its strong performance there and on international licensee outlets, (#1 in Brazil and Spain at various points,) it was later bumped up to the big leagues, airing on Nickelodeon itself.

As a staff writer on Season 2 of Kappa Mikey, I was deeply involved at every stage of the creative process: ideation, pitching episode concepts, breaking stories, writing drafts, punch-up, supervising recording sessions, and reviewing animatics.

TWF: Thumb Wrestling Federation

I can’t believe it, Colonel! Walt has already written more than 20 episodes! And he’s still going!

TWF: Thumb Wrestling Federation was a series of interstitial shorts that ran 5 seasons, first on Nicktoons, then on Cartoon Network. The series performed impressively in North America and even more so in Latin America, Asia, and the UK, where it briefly held the #1 ratings spot for children’s programming. That’s right — the TWF interstitials drew more viewers than the full-length shows they bookended. British kids would literally tune in just to watch a 5-minute episode of TWF before changing the channel or turning off the TV.

Working with the producers and a rotating cast of collaborators, I was the core of the creative team on the first three seasons of TWF, creating characters, outlining plot arcs, and writing literally half the episode scripts. Having then moved on from the company, I returned as a freelance consultant and writer for the final two seasons, plotting out the season arcs and contributing a handful of scripts.
